Real life fossil named after Fossil Pokemon

How curious.

Quote:Gotta catch ‘em all – Pterosaur taxonomy

In Plos One a pterosaur genus has been named Aerodactylus, after the fossil Pokémon Aerodactyl.

Despite the name being brand spanking new, i.e. Aerodactylus Vidovic and Martill 2014, the specimens have been known to science for over a century and a half!

Aerodactylus is a new genus name for the species Pterodactylus scolopaciceps Meyer 1860.
So basically, we have a fossil of a dino-bird, which is named after a fossil dino-bird Pokemon, which si based on a fossil dino-bird. Colonu

Not the first case video games has crept into science btw; I know for instance some DNA structures or the like are named after Sonic and Dr. Eggman. Thought this would be neat to share at any rate.
