BBS/Serebii/Tumblr NaNoWriMo Hangout?

#1
So as I've mentioned on various places, I'm planning on setting up Google Hangouts throughout NaNoWriMo for chatting in real time with other participants. These would be mostly for support, advice, word warring (challenging other participants to write as many words as possible in X amount of time), and so forth. And anyone, even non-participants, can take part in the hangout so long as, y'know, you're not distracting people. (MIA.) Would there be any interest here for that kind of thing? If so, what days/times would work best for you?

I'm hoping to figure out a good time slot for a start time by the weekend and then hammer out the actual details of the event, so by the first, y'all will know what's going on.

Watson: Punch you?
Holmes: Yes! Punch me! In the face! Didn't you hear me?
Watson: I always hear "punch me in the face" when you're speaking, but it's usually subtext.

Yes!

All times. Okay no that's not true, Latios. You have other things in your life you need to take care of. Like eating and sleeping. >_>

So let's say...after 4 except for Tuesday through Thursday? But you probably shouldn't base much off of me because I'm going to be juggling school and NaNo and my schedule is gonna flip the freak out.

I think it would be cool to have a chat dedicated to this, but my schedule is so weird I can't give a specific time right now. I'm sorry, you were probably looking for a solid answer, but I can't give one right now.

Ohh, I'd love to do this. I have no idea what Google hangouts even are, but I'm willing to learn if it means NaNo awesomeness :D As far as days go, the best for me would probably be Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and maybe Wednesday. Unfortunately I'm on such a far-off time zone that I really don't know if I'm going to be able to be there when other people are around. Sort of like how I can't really ever attend the movie nights because they're during the night for me. So, you probably don't want to build the schedule around my availability times, since most participants are likely to reside on that side of the planet. That said, the earlier you can do it your time, the better for me, in general.

Do Google Hangouts need someone to be hosting them at all times? Or is it more like IRC, where you can just pop in and see if anyone's around?

Aaaand le official post!

Hey, folks! Are you attempting NaNo? Do you have a writing challenge of your own that you’re trying to tackle this month? Just want to pester people who are trying to write? Then come join us!

NaNoWriMo Chat Hangouts

Le What?
Jax is inviting literally every writer she knows, from Tumblr, the BBS, the Fan Fiction Mafia, and WoJ, to join in on weekly writing sessions via Tinychat. Come meet fellow writers, engage in word count races, seek advice and betas, and generally be massive distractions to each other. :D

Le When?
There is a Tinychat room open at all hours, but Jax will officially host NaNo get-togethers on Saturdays, starting from 4 PM (alternatively, 8 PM if she’s working on Saturday). Get-togethers will run until whenever people drop off.

Le Where?
jxvalentine @ Tinychat.

Le Rules?
And of course, there are a few brief rules to keep in mind before entering the room:

1. Thou shalt not be a dick to other chat participants. Flame wars will be dealt with by way of bannings.
2. Thou shalt not spam the chan.
3. Thou shalt not post links to/use the chan for porn, offensive websites, things that will harm other participants’ computers, and so forth.

Le Eh?
As a recap, things you can do in this channel:

1. Ask for advice.
2. Cheer folks on/talk about your stories.
3. Start word wars (i.e., “write as many words in a set amount of time and then compare word counts”) with other participants.
4. Talk about whatever.

You do not need to actually participate in NaNo to drop by the chan!

Please also let me know if there are any issues with Tinychat. This is my first time using the service, so.

(Note to Anni: I'll be on at about 4 PM, but you should be able to get in at any time. Let me know if it doesn't work like that!)

Hey, peoples! As a reminder, the first hangout is currently happening in le Tinychat. If we have any troubles (which apparently people did last night), we may be moving, so it would be a good idea to either join us now or keep an eye on this thread for further updates. I'd recommend joining us, though, because the people already in are awesome.
