So, I want to start a blog for some of my pets, but I'm not really sure where to start.
Any suggestions for hosts, or how to start?

Well, I'm no Master of Blog Communications (since my skillz lie at Wikis), but depending on wether you have already a previous account, I'd say some services like MyOpera are pretty good. They let you do good stuff, in particular since, if the blog is for pets, you'll be in need of uploading pictures and the like.
The other option is of course Google /the blog service previously known as Blogger) or something similar. But I don't exactly like them, since they mess up my specifications (about code, colour, that kind of stuff) too much. Thedre is also a specific community for pet lovers (petsblog dot org, or something like that) which you can check.
Once you have that set up, then you havt to settle for a blogging style (I mean the writing style, are you commenting on the pets or have an actual "pet's blog", for example), and then upload the pictures and such. And of course linkback to similar sites.
I hope I have been of some help. Don't hesitate to ask back.

As I said at your LJ, I have plenty enough space and bandwidth here, if you would like me to host you a Wordpress blog. I have (at least) two sites running on Wordpress - http://www.midorikawa.co.uk and http://ts3.camisado.co.uk
Or even if you'd just like me to install one for you to poke about with and see if you'd like it...xD; I really would recommend Wordpress wholeheartedly.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone.
I'm off to a good start, and I've already started writing my first entry.
I'm going to have some education information on it from time to time, and whereas I know some of it out of my head, and from my own experience, I want to add things that I have read more recently.
Any idea how to properly document this?

Sorry to double post, but I thought I'd share what I have so far:
