So, while writing part 2 of the Haunting at the Old Chateau, with a death count of five Pokemon so far with one more death to come, it has occurred to me as it has several times in the past the great potential Pokemon has for various types of horror stories. Whether it's the Pokemon themselves or various myths and locations, Pokemon has some big potential for horror plots. Take Haunting for example, which is pretty much entirely focused around the concept of taking Rotom and portraying it as not just mischievous but downright evil with it killing everyone who goes into the Old Chateau. It's not like Rotom's the only Pokemon with an innate potential for horror, however. Even Pokemon portrayed more innocently, such as Ninetales with the whole touching the tail curse and everything, could potentially turn into good focuses for a horror story. With Ninetales, one could do several things really... A curse that all humans/Pokemon/everyone the person touches/sees/is around dies until the person realizes he's all alone and can never be close to anyone again and kills himself or something would be one, but much more could be done naturally. Horror doesn't have to have death, after all. Although it is nice.

Despite this potential, I haven't really seen many attempts at a real horror Pokemon fanfic other than my own and a few others that are more borderline than anything else. Now, I know of late there does seem to be a thing for darkfics going around, but not necessarily real horror stories. So I pose here both a question, and a challenge. First, I want you, the people of the BBS, to brainstorm some Pokemon horror fics and post the ideas here. Don't be shy! Don't hold back either, I think all of us are mature enough to handle a little blood and gore (or a lot, in my case).

Next, I challenge you to actually write it, no matter how bad you think your writing is. Just do it, it's good exercise and it's not like this will be judged or anything, it's just for fun. Now, I wish I had thought of this earlier and could have posed it as a Halloween challenge, but... Oh hell, I'll still do it. I challenge any writer brave enough to attempt it to write a Pokemon-centered horror story for Halloween! Posting it on Sunday is fine too, I guess. Or just take your time and skip Halloween altogether, posting it next week because it's just an overrated holiday. Or you can all just ignore me and go about your business!

No matter what anyone else does, I am right on track to post Haunting at the Old Chateau part 2 (and final) on Halloween with over three-quarters of it done now. So even if no one else posts anything, you can all still read mine. ;) (I'll be posting both parts here at the same time, by the way)

I was planning to write something for Halloween for you guys becasue I don't celebrate the Holiday. The ideas have just gotten of the grounds so I'm not sure if I'll be able to finish the story. Then again, I'll try. Maybe on the plane...

Anyways, mine was supposed to be set in a boarding school/university campus where the main character and a couple of others are slowly killed of (with blood and gore of course) on the 28th of October(becasue the 31st has been overdone)

A lot of tragedy, suspense, blood and gore, torture of Pokemon, torture of humans, destruction and plenty of other Ghoulish delights I have in store. I'll post it when I'm done...

Till then, Shedinja and Mismagius have a lot of potential that I want to exploit. There will be a logical explanation as to why their on a campus though...

I wrote a one-shot ages ago involving the move Curse, as used by non-Ghost-types. I always found it kind of interesting that many if not most perfectly ordinary Pokémon can use a move called Curse, and just what kind of sinister curse could slow you down while improving your physical strength. What I came up with was basically that it chops away at the Pokémon's soul, giving it up to the devil (well, some sort of evil force, anyway), in exchange for strength. Thus, the Pokémon would gradually lose its self-awareness, becoming slow and sluggish, until it ends up as a soulless puppet.

I never really liked how I originally pulled it off, so I only posted it on one forum, and then always meant to rewrite it somehow, but it refused to come out right. Maybe I should try to do that for this Halloween.

For ideas, well... Anything with Lugia could be awesome. You know the people of Johto use Lugia to threten their kids? Well, we all know Lugia are generally calm and so on, but there could still be a bunch of horror stories about it circulating among the children. So, let's say a bunch of kids goes camping and when night comes, one of them starts to tell the horror story. The story itself wouldn't be a horror story, but instead, there would be one inside it. It could be an exceptionally gory and horrible story and outright contradict the canon, yet still fit the facts from the games and anime. And, when the morning comes, the kids actually see Lugia flying over their camp... And run home like the wind.

Horror stories aren't really my cup of tea. I don't know if the above idea is a good or a bad one, since I don't really read horror, watch horror, nor write horror. I've just never really liked it a lot. I mean, sure, I can watch a movie or two with my friends, but I never consider those movies very good. I reckon I should read some Stephen King, since I've heard he writes it really well, but I don't know. It's not that I'm too scared about it, or that the gory parts are too gross (although that sometimes does hold true, mind you), I just don't... get it. Just like thrillers aren't my thing. *shrugs* I don't know.
